FAQs
Read on to find our most frequently asked questions about Microblading & Lip Blush treatments.
Microblading
Between 1-3 years, with most clients choosing to top up around the 18 month mark. Retention rates vary depending on skin type, sun exposure, medication, anti-ageing products, lifestyle and aftercare.
The treatment may not be suitable if you are taking certain medications including blood thinners, some acne medications and prescription Retinol. Skin conditions such as eczema, keloid scarring and psoriasis in the brow area may also be a contraindication. Other factors include skin type and lifestyle — oily skin generally needs more regular top-ups, and sun exposure can prematurely fade results, especially soon after the treatment. Chemical peels and microdermabrasion facials can also affect the longevity of your brows.
Between 7-10 days depending on your rate of healing. Light exercise is fine during this time but avoid anything that causes heavy sweating. Keep your brows as dry as possible until the scabbing process has fully subsided.
e recommend coming for a brow tint and shape one week before your appointment. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, ibuprofen, aspirin, fish oil and vitamin E for 24 hours before and after. Any holidays should be completed a minimum of 30 days prior. Discontinue Retinol at least 2 weeks before and restart 2 weeks after. Botox and skin peels should be done at least 4 weeks beforehand.
Avoid all makeup on or near the brow area for the first 10-14
days until the scabbing process is complete. Wearing makeup during this time can affect pigment retention and increase the risk of infection.
I only offer top up appointments to clients who have had their initial Microblading appointment with me. If you have had a Microblading treatment done previously elsewhere I would need to assess your brows to see if we can move ahead with a full treatment with me. Occasionally clients may need a laser removal before I can rework the brows. This can all be assessed and discussed during the consultation stage.
Lip Blush
Lip blush typically lasts between 1 and 2 years depending on skin type, lifestyle and aftercare. A top-up is recommended every 12-18 months to keep results looking fresh.
Initial healing takes around 10-14 days. The colour will appear much darker at first — this is completely normal and softens considerably as the skin heals. The true colour result takes around 4-6 weeks, which is why we schedule your top-up at the 6-8 week mark.
It’s important to avoid all lip products, other than your recommended aftercare product, for the first 10 days while your lips are healing. After this you can wear lip products as normal. Many clients find they no longer feel the need for daily lipstick once their lip blush has healed! Lip balms and moisturisers are highly recommended though, to keep the lips in great condition.
Lip blush is suitable for most people but is not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have active cold sores, are taking blood thinners, or have had recent lip filler. If you are prone to cold sores a preventative antiviral course is recommended. We carry out a full consultation before every treatment.
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, ibuprofen and aspirin for 24 hours before your appointment. Stay well hydrated in the days leading up to it and avoid lip filler for at least 4 weeks beforehand. Exfoliate, moisturise and balm your lips in the time leading up to your appointment; the better the condition of your lips, the more evenly the pigment will deposit on the day. Dry patches on the lips can cause uneven implantation of pigment.
